Musings

This week has been fairly uneventful, which I guess when you consider what could happen, is a good thing! We have officially joined the ranks of homeowners with lawns! We had our first lawn mowing on saturday and it was fairly exciting - since it only took 20-30 minutes. Having grass and low maintenance is the best!

Yesterday was a day of little jobs. We did make it to a bike clinic at the church (one of the scouts' Eagle Projects) where both Weston and Tyler loved being out with all the kids riding bikes and racing. Tyler hasn't quite got the concept of peddling down, but still had a blast!

It was also the start of the farmer's market, so as a tradition the city stocks the pond at the park with trout for a kids fishing day. We went late so we could avoid the crowds, and hopefully keep our chances of actually catching anything to a minimum! We didn't get any pictures because it was a little rainy on and off, but as long as they each had a fishing pole life was great. Weston though the idea of fishing was more to put food on the end of the line and throw it out, so the fish could eat it, then pull the line in and put more food on to send back out to the fish! Luckily, we didn't catch anything so we didn't have to clean, cook or eat it! But we did head to the grocery store afterwards and picked up some fish for dinner. We wanted regular fish sticks, but Weston thought those looks yucky - so we ended up getting tempura battered shrimp. He's got expensive taste! And sadly, Weston and Tyler both thought the best part of the shrimp to eat - was the tail! Sometimes I think we have very odd children!

Weston and Tyler are becoming more and more like stereotypical brothers. They either love each other or are trying to kill the other. Weston is hitting the phase of absolutes, fairness and helpfulness. He seems to be always ready to explain to Tyler exactly how things should be done, why and when. Tyler doesn't seem to appreciate the micro-management of things, but seems to put up with it quite well. Tyler is hiting the phase of 'I can do it myself' and continues in the phase of 'getting into everything - all the time'!!!

Weston loves to play 'birthday' with everyone. He will get a blanket and hide various and random objects in the blanket - sometimes himself or Tyler, and then have someone 'open' the present for their birthday or christmas present! He loves to give presents and have surprises, even though he just told us what they were before we opened it - or to wrap the 'present' in front of us. We are getting really good at the surprised looks!

The favorite family game - again - is hide and seek. At least a favorite for the boys. They will run and hide in the exact same spot and yell for us to find them, and then act shocked and surprised when we find them! John and I took our turn to hide - after we were told to hide in our bed under the covers (which had been the hiding spot for the boys the last 5 times), once the boys left John and I ran to the bathroom and hid in the shower and watching the boys through the mirror reflection, we had to work hard to keep from laughing outload, while they looked for us repeatedly under the covers. They just kept moving the blankets around thinking we would somehow appear. They would leave after a little while, then come back and do it all again! It was really funny. The idea that we would hide in a different spot was a huge shocker for them! But they eventually found us and then the shower was the next hiding spot for the next 5 games!

Weston is picking up the phrase 'So, how are you doing today?' He will ask anyone that at the most random times, and then carry on a short conversation - making sure everyone is okay!

Tyler, what can I say. The kid makes me laugh! He walks around carrying things in his mouth (like an animal would), and the process of picking up the items always involves a growl of some duration! Tyler's favorite way to drink - anything - is to pour it out on the table or floor (favorite) and then crouch down on all fours or as close to it as he can, and then lick up whatever it was he just poured out. Tyler is taking to moving our heads to look at what he wants us to see. Today at church I about got whip-lash because he saw his friend Meredith (our babysitter) and was so excited that he had to keep showing me.

Tyler is talking more and more, most of which we are understanding which is nice, and seems to be very vocal about things, and very eager to learn new words. After we teach him a word, or if Weston will say something, Tyler will repeat the word - point and the object then repeat the word again and laugh! It's the laugh after most everything he does that is really funny!

Tyler is still convinced he can see the baby through my belly-button. And has now taken to trying to undress me in public so others can see the baby and so he can give the baby zerberts. Once that is discouraged, he then lifts his shirt to show me his baby and tries to get me to give him (his baby) zerberts!

They are both into trains right now, and cars - both of which I think will always be life long loves! When the toys were upstairs, they didn't play as much but since we have brought them downstairs it's a daily activity. Tyler has the most high pitched train sound that he makes over, and over and over! I'm excited for his birthday to see how he likes the train set he will be getting that adds to the one Weston has.

Tyler is still into running away, and since he can open our dead bolts, has thoroughly enjoyed taking a run outside whenever he sees a bird. For some reason, it is his responsibility and new love to chase after every bird he sees, yell in absolute excitement at the sight of it - as he is running for it and tring to catch it! It's very exhausting.... to watch!

Weston loves - LOVES - to get into my makeup and thinks he should be able to wear it, as well as Tyler... I can get Tyler to let me get some pictures for proof - but Weston I think already understands the idea of black-mail! Sadly - nothing ever goes on the part of the face it is supposed to go on. But if I let them play with it now, maybe they wont want to later in their life!

Both boys are deciding they want to be vegetarians, which is really odd - since neither likes or eats salad! There isn't a lot left. And considering John and I are true carnivores - it makes it a little odd!

All in all, life is good. The boys love to make each other laugh. By either playing piggies on each other, or conspiring in someway against John and me. They play great together (when they want to) and I think are getting more aware of the thought of a baby coming, as I become more and more crippled. Weston is always wanting to add toys and play spaces for his little sister when they play, and Tyler is forever mauling every little baby he is even sort of close to. It will be fun to watch them when the baby is finally here!

We love our boys, and our family and are so grateful for the blessings which we have been given. We feel so lucky to be parents, and to have boys with such independent spirits!
