A Mommy's Musings! (5/13/2007)
It was recommended by a friend, that using the blog as a weekly update was a great way to keep a journal for your kids and their funny things they did. I've been meaning to start that, but today after trying to remember all the fun things Weston and Tyler have been doing, and not doing very well at the remembering part, I thought I should get down what I could remember. So here it is - the musings of a mom over her kids!
They have both been so funny lately, and I wonder if they really are always this funny and I'm just to busy or distracted to notice, or if these really are the special moments that make the work worth it! Today was especially nice, being mother's day it was a great stage for Weston and Tyler both to have their 'moments'. Weston came in while I was getting ready for church and announced that 'Daddy and I just wrapped your present, it's a book about flowers, but I told daddy it was ugly'. I wasn't sure why he thought the book was ugly, but apparently it was the wrapping paper he was opposed to and not the book!
Sacrament meeting was a real treat. Weston and Tyler both were on one. Tyler who is tied to his little ba-ba (giraffe) had stuffed it into Weston's back-pack (which for some reason made it in with us), John helped put the back-pack on Tyler's shoulders and within seconds, Tyler starts looking around with a very concerned look on his face asking 'Where ba-ba, Where ba-ba go?' John said it was in the back-pack. I repeated that since Tyler - obviously - hadn't heard or understood, John then started taking the back-pack off and unzipped it, pulling ba-ba's head out. Tyler was hysterical, squealing and smiling 'ba-ba' then in true Tyler fashion - started growling a little bit and went to bite the toy around the neck with all the love and affection he has. Sadly John's hand and fingers were still there and apparently by his squeal - it wasn't a little tickle!
Every Mother's day the Primary aged children are invited up to sing a song for their mothers during sacrament meeting. Weston has always wanted to go up with the kids to sing, but not being old enough, John and I haven't let him. Usually tears and pleading follow, but we've held our ground. Well today was Weston's first opportunity to go up and when they invited the primary children to go up - I asked if Weston wanted to go which off-course he did. But he had to take with him, his 3 books which he had been looking at during church. The pocket size hymnal, the pocket size primary song book and a larger size hard book about sacrament meeting. He was a little longer getting up, because he had to get the books properly positioned in his arms before walking very calmly up to the front. So when he made it he was in the front of the kids on the stairs over by the piano - while the music started, Weston calmly put the books down on the piano and grabbed the hymnal, and after opening it and then 'flipping to the right page' (the book was probably upside down) he proceeded to stand there very calmly, like he was singing/participating in a choir. The First song, he didn't really sing much but the second song (after flipping to the right page) was 'I am a Child of God' and he looked like he was catching about the last 2 to 3 words of each phrase. When the song was over as the other kids started filing down, Weston calmly closed his hymnal and picked up the other two books, positioned them in his arms, and walked back! ..... It was hilarious! Weston can't read (although he desperately wants to) and even if he could - he was in the wrong song book - and I really do think the book was upside down! But he very much up-staged the whole primary and their song, and I got comments afterwards about how cute Weston was, etc., etc... It was great! Weston was so happy with being able to participate in that.
I even think he was the youngest one up there, and who went on his own accord with no prompting and then fully participated - instead of playing with a friend, picking his nose or crying! It was really cute and just - one of those endearing moments. I wish I had had a video camera!
Later in the same meeting, Weston needed a potty break and so John took Weston and Tyler (who apparently also needed a break) and when they came back, Tyler came to me and I cuddled with him for a few seconds (he was looking behind me) then Tyler pulls back and very seriously asks me 'Where daddy?, where daddy go?' John, who was sitting at my right didn't hear any of this because he was holding Weston just sat there, I looked at Tyler which in my mind I thought was a very obvious - hello child daddy didn't go anywhere and you just walked in with him look - but said, instead in a very kind voice, daddy's right here and pointed to John. Tyler got a huge smile on his face leaned back/side-ways over to John and started licking him on the shoulder. I still don't get that one! But as Ed said - at least he didn't bite him!
The biting seems to be dying out a little, I'm not sure how, but I'm happy none the less! Tyler is very much into copying everything that is said. Sometimes to the great frustration of an older brother. And sometimes to my great frustration when I ask a question and instead of answering, he just asks the question back!
Tyler and have 'wars' about the names of things, particularly apples. Tyler loves tomatoes and I mean LOVES tomatoes. He has given up ice cream, and treats (half eaten) to be able to eat a tomato. Very odd, but even more so is that with that love he still calls them apples. In fact anything red, or fruit like (lemons included) is an apple. So I will say no - it's a tomato, can you say tomato?' Tyler reply's 'mato' or something like that. Then looks and the tomato, points and says apple. We can go the rounds on that for a very long time. I always give up first!
Tyler loves giving zerberts/raspberries or what ever they get called! He has a new love of giving the baby zerberts - which means, my tummy gets wet - a lot! He also seems to think that my belly button is a port hole to the baby. So when we wants to see the baby - he lifts up my shirt and gets really close to the belly button to look in at the baby!
Weston is convinced there is a baby boy in his tummy, also named Elayna, and we are supposed to go see the baby doctor tomorrow so he can take the baby boy out of Weston's tummy and the baby girl out of my tummy!
John was wanting to 'show' the boys the baby move in mommy's tummy, but the baby was uncooperative, even after being yelled at, zerbert-ed (is that a word?!), and being slapped and pushed around by Tyler! So the boys started showing the babies in their tummies - and Tyler had to find the baby in John's belly button. John amused them all by making his 'baby' move, by rolling his stomach - like guys can do - and it was a huge laugh! Then Weston decided that his baby should be able to move too - so he started rolling his stomach! he looked like a little belly-dancer it was so funny. Especially now, that they think I'm just making the whole baby thing up and that when my stomach does move - it's just mommy making the baby move!
Weston loves taking pictures - I've included some that he has taken. And the picture of Weston - oddly enough was taken by Tyler - how he did that I'm not sure, but I thought it was rather cute! You can see Tyler, making his 'sad' face! He loves making a sad face and pouting about things. I think it started as trying to throw a tantrum, but since we just laugh and ignore tantrums, I think he just tries to stay sad, with a fairly pathetic face, as long as possible! Thanks to Weston for catching one on camera!
Weston is into asking people 'So (name), how are you doing today?' he asks at the most random times. While he is in the middle of playing computer games, and I'm cleaning up. or to his pre-school teacher while she is passing out the snacks. It is really cute. And goes a long way to endear Weston to everyone he meets!
Weston is a talker, that's all there is to it! And everything is a very logically based (in his world) explanation or discussion of something. Reasoning with that child is useless! For instance. With his pre-school he was able to be in the Irrigation Festival Parade this weekend. They all have been working on this huge dinosaur for the last few months, and then they got t-shirts with the dinosaur on it and were able to walk/ride or whatever with the dinosaur in the parade (probably about 1 1/2 miles - but about 3 hours long. Weston, when he got his t-shirt for the parade, loved it but insisted that the dinosaur (which was printed on the back) had to be on the front. We went through the explanation of the dinosaur is really supposed to go on the back, and the tag goes to the back, like all your other shirts so wouldn't this be the same - explanations Well no - he insisted that when they made the t-shirt they printed it wrong and that it really was supposed to go on the front, and so he was wearing it the right way. Well, at the parade - even seeing all the other kids with the shirt on correctly, and the dinosaur on the back - he insisted that 'they' were all wrong and that he was wearing it the right way.
I had someone comment about it, asking if we had 'let him get dressed on his own that day' and I said yes, but he does that every day (sometimes 3-4 times because he needs to wear a different shirt for this or for that reason) but he was convinced the shirt went that way. They just laughed and I told them, he is just a very definite child - he also thinks that they printed the underwear pictures wrong and that they are supposed to go on the front - so he is always in backwards underwear ('because if we put the picture on the back, we will get in trouble').
I love my kids, they bring such joy and depth to me as a person and to my character! I look forward to all that I will learn through their eyes!
It sounds like you have your hands full! Can't wait to have a boy! Do you know what you're having?
