First Day's of School
Well, John and I have officially hit the monumental stage of 'kids in school' - for the rest of our lives! Yes we already had pre-school. But that was only a few hours every other day.. But we are now in the school system, with calendars and schedules and buses and eventually school lunches... I'm loving it. John thinks it's a little weird. Though I must admit, I did start to tear up a little when we went the day before to meet Weston's teacher. I just sat there and watched in awe as Weston talked so confidently to this 'stranger' and looked so eager and comfortable. It will be a fun adventure for all of us I'm sure.
Weston has morning kindergarten and Tyler has morning pre-school on T/TH, which means that I have T/TH mornings with just me and Elayna... I think I'm going to like this schedule!
Weston had his first day on Wednesday and was so excited that when we woke him up to get ready - he just ran from room to room playing and chatting about nothing really. I kept asking him to get ready to go, but he thought he was all set wearing his 'new pajamas' (various t-shirts and shorts - since he never matches sets anyway) and thought that would work. He was just so excited he didn't want to do anything but go to school. Finally we got him dressed in actual clothes, and bribed him enough to eat at least a few bites of oatmeal before he then anxiously ran out to get on his bike with John.. After a few pictures, John pushed off and Weston just started yelling at the top of his lungs "I'm going to Kindergarted"! He had a great first day, and loved the bus ride home, though you can't tell from this picture. And no cracks about riding the short bus... Apparently this route is significantly lighter on the kids than the other routes!
When I asked Weston how his first day was he just said he had fun... and that he couldn't remember. But he did get to play outside, and someone else took his turn with the lego's. But later he talked to John on the phone and was so excited to tell Daddy how he sang songs, and played with friends and just went on and on, until abruptly he stopped and said "Daddy, now tell me about your adventures today". It was a very sweet moment and memory for me!
Tyler was okay watching Weston go to school, because he was just one day away for his first day of school. And oh boy - did he let me know, over and over and over that his day was coming!
Thursday we got the boys up, and Tyler was a little reluctant to get out of bed until I reminded him that it was his first day of school - and he literally grinned the Olympic medal grin and jumped out of bed. He didn't stop talking about his school until we finally got in the car, which wasn't fast enough for him at all. After Weston left we had a good 45 minutes before we needed to leave, and considering I was still in pajamas I needed the time. But Tyler just kept going around saying "mom, I'm ready", "Come on Mom - let's go", "Mooooommmmmm, let's go", It was hilarious to say the least. I kept trying to stall him so I could get ready, and so we wouldn't be 20 minutes early - but finally I gave in. We got into the car, with backpack, hat and pictures for his teachers. And the talking stopped. Completely! Until on the road, just out of our development then he started telling me which way to turn to go to his school - that was so far away - that we needed to go faster - and so on. It was hilarious. We stopped at a red light and he got a little anxious - after we started going again I asked him if he was excited for school and he said "no, I'm not excited. When I give Paula and Georgia their pictures, then I'll be excited." I couldn't help but laugh.
The next 15 minutes of our drive was rather quiet, until Tyler could see the school and the kid literally was jumping up and down in his seat. I had brought the camera to take pictures of Tyler, since he wouldn't let me get pictures at home - they had to be at school.. So I got a quick stop for a picture and he then ran into his school. I was a little farther behind since I had to get Elayna out of the car, so when I made it into the school Tyler was already past giving hugs to his teachers and at the tables ready to play! Elayna liked that very much - and it was cute to see Tyler show Elayna around "his stomping grounds". Elayna was more than upset to have to leave, but we have a few more years before she'll be ready, she thought she was ready though and was very confident in just 'joining in' with the other kids!
When I asked Tyler how his first day of school was, he was all grins and said he had so much fun and loved it! I love to see my children so happy and animated - it just lightens my spirit so much!
What a fun few days!
