The lies we tell........
The boys have now seen Santa Clause twice. First we got to sit on his lap at the Ward Christmas party and then the boys had their Montessori Christmas party. It was close though.......
Tuesday night it snowed, and snowed a lot so we thought we would be getting a snow day Wednesday. We didn't but it snowed more and never melted and so Thursday and Friday were both snow days and Friday was the Montessori Christmas party where Santa was coming so we were a little sad when we found out that Santa wasn't coming because he lived a good 40 min. away and with all the snow wouldn't be able to make it. Well there were enough concerned parents that someone went and picked him up and braved the roads - but it was well worth it. This is the same Santa we had two years ago - and he smokes his 'bubble' pipe and tells the kids to remember to brush their teeth, do their chores, obey mom and dad.. and "don't forget the cookies and milk"! He really is great.
So I got the call that the party was canceled and I told the boys that Santa got stuck in the snow and we weren't going for the party on Friday - Weston was very concerned (I love that he is totally into Santa) and wondered how he would get stuck since he is magic. And since he has his reindeer that can fly.
So I told Weston (and Tyler) that Santa didn't have the reindeer with him because the reindeer weren't able to travel this close to Christmas since they needed to rest up for Christmas eve, to be able to get Santa to everyone's house.
We then had a whole discussion on how Santa was able to get here (to Washington) without his reindeer. And that Santa was okay with kids seeing him now, it's just when he's sneaking into houses to leave presents that he wants to be invisible. And why once he got unstuck he still would or should have time to come to the party... and said Santa too needed to make it back to the North Pole to rest up for Christmas deliveries.
So the kids were sad, but understanding since they too wanted their presents Christmas day, and not to be left out because the reindeer or Santa were too tired to come to our house.
But then that afternoon I got a call saying that Santa was going to get picked up so the party was back on... so then we had to say that Santa was able to get out of the snow and it was faster then they thought so Santa was coming after all. The boys were ecstatic.
Once we got to the party, the boys immediately ran into see Santa and again asked for the one toy they have been asking for since they saw them months ago... Trick trax for Weston and geo trax with the airplane for Tyler.. they even wrote Santa letters asking for these toys, and they asked the Santa at the ward party for them as well!
Elayna was more than hesitant to even touch Santa - replay of the Church party, but seemed very intrigued by his costume.
So much for telling the truth, being honest and all the rest... I'm just hoping for a few more years of having fun with the Christmas - Santa stuff... it's just cute to be a part of the silly part of the holliday with kids!
The rest of the party was just fun. Tyler was into sampling all the treats (he'll take a bite and be finished and move on to another taste). Weston and John played checkers - as Weston apparently loves Checkers and really, really wants to play! And Elayna just went around finding a different kid at each turn that she could shadow and 'play' with. She read for a while - then made sure everyone else was reading a book, then tried to play Checkers with Weston and John only to find that Weston wasn't ready for a third player so she went back to following kids around and trying to find a play mate! She eventually found a great kid who didn't mind her company - probably because he didn't notice her, as he was just trying to harrase the cat and probalby thought she was too.... All in all though, it has been a great Santa season this year!
