A Perfect Day

It seems to have been a rough past few weeks so the way things played out Tuesday just felt like perfection!

The majority of the day it was just a day like every other - overcast, rainy and cold. (which is what it's been like for a long time and seems to be hard to get out of the habit to just stay home, inside. anyway......) We've been making recipes out of a new cook book and last night was Salmon Starfish. A little iffy for kids or adults if you're looking forward to salmon loafs, but we tried it anyway. I was amazed, Weston and Tyler loved helping me make dinner and I had such a great time cooking with them. The salmon stuff was cut into star shapes and then breaded, and put on a bed of asparagus (seaweed). When it came time to eat them Weston and Tyler both were so excited that they each ate 3 of the stars (1 more than John or me) and all their asparagus and potatoes. It was amazing because though they were edible - they were definitely not a culinary delight! I figured they'd eat the potatoes and grumble on the rest... we had to ask them to eat the potatoes and hold off on more fish! (sorry we missed getting a picture - we were hungry and the boys were very anxious to eat their creations!)

Then John and the boys all helped clean up and then we took out DDR and played until bedtime. The boys loved it, and Laynie who seems to really likes to groove to music loved it as well. When ever music plays she starts to bob her head, then her body joins in, then she starts flayling her arms around in tempo. John took one pad, the boys and laynie took the other and I took the camera. After a while Laynie was tired of just kicking her one arrow, so we let her have her own turn which she loved and the boys appreciated since "Laynie needs to have a turn too".

Then they got in pajamas and went to bed - no fuss - it was really a perfect day. At least a perfect evening.

We'll have to see what I can have Weston and Tyler help me make next. Only next time we'll get pictures of them before we eat! If you are interested we are getting the recipes from 'First Meals by Annable karmel', I really have enjoyed the book - and of the 5 or so recipes we've tried they have all been great. Especially the brownies!!!

Here is a picture of a chinese noodle dish from the night before that John turned into rabits for the boys. Not our favorite meal -but very cute!!!
