John's Birthday Present

I ordered myself a birthday present on Thursday and it came Friday. Lucky that the website is based in Utah, shipping is fast. I got a great price on the child carrier, almost $60 off the regular price. I highly reccomend the site http://www.backcountry.com.

Weston loves it and I think it will be nice. I was getting tired of pushing the stroller on dirt. I don't usually get myself stuff, but I figured Jenn wasn't in any condition to shop and had procrastinated until the last minute it would be OK this time. Besides it is almost more for Weston than for me.

Things are really pretty in Utah right now. The weather is finally drying up enough that you can plan outdoor activities. (Yes, I know it is ironic that we are moving to costal Washington State.) Both of these pictures were taken from our backyard. The indian paintbrush is really vibrant this year and there seems to be a concentration right behind our house.

We have been getting so excited to move, but occanionally we have twinges of regret about leaving our home and friends. We have really grown to like the area here and are finally starting to feel like we are settling in. We will definately miss our house. We had so many plans when we moved in a year ago, but they have all been put on hold. Sometimes we feel that we are going to be downgrading since there is no way we will be able to afford the equivalent house in Washington, but hopefully we will have something that we can be comfortable in when we build our next house.

Sometimes we ask ourselves if we did the right thing by building a house so quickly and then having to move. Jenn and I have decided that the learning experience in itself was worth the trouble and the stress. We have made some good contacts (I found a thesis advisor in the ward) and some good friends. We also have a lot more experience for the next time we build.

Grandma and Grandpa Hudson came to visit thier great-grandson on Thursday. It is wonderful to have them so close and that they are so willing to help. We are going to miss them when we move.

Tyler seems to be a pacifier child. He needs to be sucking on something to fall asleep or calm down.

Call me we'll do lunch.
It is interesting to watch Tyler as he begins to discover his hands.

Weston was being a little camera shy in a funny way. I can nevere tell if if is going to humor us, be silly, or just stare at us. He actually has been really good with the new baby and I would say that he hasn't shown any signs of jealousy at all. Actually he has started to settle down a little since Tyler has been born. I think he was feeling a little displaced since we were starting to pack up his things and get ready for the move. It also didn't help that Jenn wasn't feeling very well with the end of her pregnancy and couldn't spend as much time playing. He seems to be a lot happier now that Mom is back to normal and doesn't mind sharing her with Tyler at all.

Summary of the first week: We stayed home and held our new baby a lot. (Actually we started getting bored Tuesday night.) This is a cute picture of Jenn holding Tyler. This seems to be his favorite position to sleep.

Weston and Tyler Comparison

A lot of people have been asking if Tyler looks like Weston. We aren't sure, so we'll let you be the judge. Weston is on the left and Tyler is on the right. Both pictures are from the day we brought the respective baby home from the hospital, so they are less than a day different in age. You can also tell that I have gotten a lot better at using our camera in the two years since Weston was born.

First Night Home

So we survived the first night home with Tyler. It wasn't that bad for me, but I am much better at ignoring than Jenn is. Besides, I'm a little ahead of her on sleep. I'm sure it will be a nap day for everyone though. Tyler got up at about 10:30 for the first feeding (we stayed up for that one), the next time I heard him was at 2:30, which was he next scheduled feeding. I figured I should help and go get him for Jenn. It turns out she was already up and trying to change his diaper and his cloths. (I didn't think babies could sweat that much.) I took care of that and tried to get him to wake up so he would eat well. He seemed to do ok, but didn't really feel like going back to sleep. He finally went down and I took him back to bed. I heard him again between 5:30 and 6:00 which was good time for another feeding. He seemed to struggle with this more and never did go all the way back to sleep until everybody got up this morning. Needless to say, Jenn is fairly tired today. We may send Weston up to the neighbors house to play. That should be a good break for him and us.
Weston seems a little more interested in Tyler this morning an dI think that slowly he will adjust. He has started saying his name, "Ty," or more often "My Ty," I guess he is going to be our little cocktail for a while.

Tyler Steven Howell's going home pictures. (Don't mind the milk moustache, I think food might be his defining characteristic for a while.) We think he is very cute anyway. We are excited to have him join us on our journey.

We are getting ready to go home. Tyler doesn't like his car seat very well so we have to bribe him with easy food.

Jenn took this while Tyler was sleeping last night. She claims she is getting more sleep since he was born than she has in weeks.

Weston came to the hospital on Tuesday morning and had a special present waiting for him from Bryan & Samantha Vernetti. He hasn't stopped playing with it since he got it. I think the train is a major hit even though it is a little noisy.

This is the one moment that Weston was the slightest bit interesested in his new brother. Trains, trucks and tractors are much more interesting I guess. Weston stayed with his great-aunt "Grandma Jan" for the two days that we were at the hospital. He loves it there and hardly noticed that we were gone.

Jenn right after Tyler was born. She felt pretty good for just having delivered. It was much nicer than with Weston, only three pushes instead of two hours.

This is the first picture of Tyler. We weren't sure what his name was at that point, but Tyler just seemed like a good name.

Cute toes! Jenn got a pedicure on the Tuesday before just for this picture. She made sure to get it early just in case. Good thing, Tyler was 3 weeks early.

Weston's Birthday was May 6th. Luckily Grandma Sandy and Aunt Brenda were here from Chicago to share it with us. Grandma gave Weston a tent which he absolutely loves. He is in his new sleeping bag from Jared, Ali, and London, peacefully enjoying his new tent. This is a rare moment however, since he is usually rowdily enjoying his new tent.

Welcome

Welcome to our blog. It is mainly for sharing pictures of our two children with grandparents and friends, but it may contain other noteworthy events. We just had our second baby boy yesterday. He shares a birthday with his dad which could be fun. This is probably more common than I think it should be. I'll figure out the odds some day. Altogh it is probably not a completely random event, so the odds are a little off. Anyway, he was born at 1:00am on Monday, May 23, 2005. It was a fairly easy delivery after Jenn got an epideral. I think she now has a not very secret crush on the man in charge of the drugs. Everything is smooth and the baby, Tyler Steven, came home with us at about 10:00 Tueday morning. Jenn, being the kind of person that she is, is already up and about and starting to get bored. She has done more work this week than I have: she has made two phone calls to my one. We have some pictures that we will post along with this announcement. That is probably the most interesting to most.
